Cassina Garden Club has a very active docent program at its
Hamilton Plantation Slave cabins with approximately 80% of its
members serving as a docent some time during the year. The
docents are knowledgeable about the history of this historic
site and the various artifacts that are on display there.
The
cabins are open year around for the Epworth Elderhostel
programs, tour groups by appointment, and for the Christ Church
Spring Tour of Homes. The docents also open the cabins to the
public each Wednesday morning during June, July and August, 10
am-Noon.
Providing a living history lesson, these docents help give
school groups a glimpse of earlier days. Moreover, Cassina’s
docents sharing their knowledge of the grounds and plantings of
the Cabins site, help provide various garden groups an
opportunity to see the flowers and plants represented by this
historical era.
