The historic tabby slave cabins
are open every Wednesday during June, July and August. They are
open from 10:00 A.M. to Noon. The cabins are also open during
our Annual Tour of Homes on the second Saturday in December and
during our Garden Walk Weekend held on the first full weekend in
May. In partnership with Epworth, we regularly open for Road
Scholars/Elderhostel/Epworth tour groups.
We welcome requests for tours of
the cabins from visitors to our Island, locals, school and
church groups and families.
Cassina Garden Club has a very
active docent program at the Hamilton Plantation tabby slave
cabins. The docents are knowledgeable about the history of this
site and the various artifacts on display there. They provide a
living history lesson, allowing visitors a glimpse of life in
earlier days. Our docents share their knowledge of the grounds
and plantings at the cabins site and provide various garden
groups with an opportunity to see flowers and plants
representative of this historical era.
